Ferrettie/Baugo Creek County Park opened to the public in 1987. Approximately 20 acres on the north portion of the park was reclaimed from a former landfill. Lake Osceola was created to provide a water feature and the excavated earth was used to create the innertubing hill. Approximately 20 acres of wetlands are preserved in Baugo Bay, which connects to the St. Joseph River. The St. Joseph River served as an early route for the fur traders in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is believed that members of the American Fur Company passed here to trade with the Native Americans.
