The 2016 Metro Parks GeoTrail highlights the trees and forests of Metro Parks. We invite you to participate in this year’s Geocache hunt that includes a variety of cache types and difficulty levels. The first 100 teams to find any 15 GeoTrail caches are eligible to receive a special edition Metro Parks Geocoin. If you find all 20 GeoTrail caches, you can solve the puzzle and unlock the coordinates for the Bonus Cache. Coins will be awarded at the GeoTrail celebration on September 10th. Trail ends October 31st.
Join us for the kick-off of the 2016 Columbus Metro Parks GeoTrail on May 21st 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Highbanks Metro Park in the Dragonfly Day Camp off Powell Road. Those attending will be given early access to the coordinates for the 2016 Metro Parks GeoTrail. Coordinates will be published on Geocaching.com on May 22nd. Please post a “Will Attend” if you plan to join us.
The event will include a drawing for “First to Find" for the event. Plan to arrive by 9:15 a.m. to get your team in the drawing.
Veteran cachers will be available to assist those new to geocaching. They will help explain how it works and help you find a practice cache at the event.
The GeoTrail is designed for all ages and abilities. We hope to see you there!
How to participate if you cannot attend the event:
• Go to www.metroparks.net to find complete instructions and print the GeoTrail page and search for the Columbus Metro Parks caches at geocaching.com on or after May 22.
• Go to the coordinates using your GPS unit and search for a camouflaged, plastic container, a micro or other tricky container.
• Sign the log, trade trinkets, and read the information under the lid. Add the code for the relevant park.
• Return to www.geocaching.com to log your find(s) and post comments or photographs. We read the comments and enjoy seeing your photos!
• Once you find at least 15 caches and have logged them with geocaching.com, return your completed GeoTrail Code Words page to Metro Parks Headquarters, or to a nature center at Battelle Darby Creek, Blacklick Woods, Blendon Woods or Highbanks Metro Parks. Nature Centers are normally staffed on weekdays noon - 8 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
• Teams completing the Trail are invited to a GeoTrail Celebration on September 10th. Coins will be awarded at the Celebration to the first 100 cache teams correctly completing the GeoTrail Code page. (One coin per geocaching handle.)
