While on a puzzle caching vacation here in the SF Bay area last summer, I placed a cache and had a lot of fun watching the "found it" logs come in back home in New York. Recently I reluctantly archived it after it disappeared for the second time, and I appreciate cachbefound's willingness to maintain a replacement cache for me here:

While I love puzzles of all difficulty levels, I am willing to admit that working on difficult ones can be an inherently frustrating pursuit. You must be incredibly observant and look for clues everywhere. It can be very difficult to get a toehold; therefore, you end up doing a lot of work that proves fruitless. Information must be gathered, and you spend time exploring paths that lead nowhere. The most aggravating experience for me is when despite my putting in a lot of effort, a puzzle remains undeciphered day after day, even though other people seem to be solving it easily.
Fortunately, once in a while I do get in the puzzling groove and seem to solve everything I look at. Those days are so fun! Unfortunately, at least as often I have days when I can’t seem to come up with any coherent ideas. Those days are not so fun. (Note that I can always count on the puzzlers here in the Bay area to keep coming up with fun and challenging puzzles to keep me occupied. If any one particular puzzle just isn’t working out, there is always another one out here that I could try to tackle … I’m not aware of anywhere else that has such a wealth of great puzzles.)
So why do it? Why spend hour after hour, day after day in hopes of getting another solve? Therein lies the secret: the feeling of solving a tough puzzle really can’t be beat. It’s like making a find on a really, really well-hidden cache, but so much better. When you can finally put those toughest ones on the solved list, you find yourself wearing a huge grin (and possibly cheering out loud). You really do end up looking forward to being back here doing it all over again … even if it does feel like you’ve blown your brain to smithereens into the stratosphere in the process.
