Peasmarsh
The settlement of Peasmarsh on the west bank of the river Wey between Artington and Godalming is contained in the parish of Shalford. It consists of a large retirement home; Astolat and Weyvern business parks and four short residential roads close to the River Wey Navigation. A woodland surrounding the rebuilt manor house, being higher up than most of the reclaimed marshland, is named Peas Marsh. A well-known online encyclopeadia also mentions a church, St Michaels but I remain unconvinced - let me know, however, if this is true.
I know very little about the sign exept for the following
- It depicts 2 Swans
- It is made of metal and sits upon a square wooden post
- Peasmarsh is written upon it
- It's quite pretty
The Cache
The first stage is near a fast-moving road but cachers don't need to cross it or get too close, take the neccessary precautions to safeguard the young, the canine and the daft.
Standing at the sign you will see several things including two lamp posts, one with a speed limit sign, a larger roadsign depicting a bus and a lamp post number (call this lamp post 1) and one lamp post slightly further away with another lamp post number attached (lamp post 2). Over the road you will see the roadsign giving information about a roundabout up the road (roundabout sign) there is no need to cross the road to reach the sign as long as you can count the words from where you are.
A = first digit on the lamp post sign on lamp post 1
B = second digit of the lamp post 2
C = Number of towns mentioned on roundabout sign
D = first digit of speed limit on lamp post 1
Walk over the green past the children's play area, you are looking for a post box in a brick column near a small bridge, you do not need to cross any roads to reach it. This post box has an identification number at the bottom at the bottom of the printed sign GUv xyz where GU is given and v, x,y and z are numbers.
E = v
F = x
G = y
H = z
the cache can be found at
N51 12.(E+H)(D+G)(A+F)
W0 34.(D+E+H)(C+F)(H+B)
Good luck
If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
