Church Micro 9087...Bix Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

SparksandCo: Sadly the past time isn’t what it was and constantly having to replace caches becomes a chore, no one seems to be interested in anything but park and grabs and losing TBs has become the norm.
This marks the end of our geocaching adventure really.

Geocache Description:

Church Micro 9087...Bix

The cache, of course, isn't at the given coordinates - but it's very close and this is a fairly quick park 'n' grab if you want it to be to get your Church Micro numbers up. If you do have time then please stay a while and walk on out across the common and enjoy the views.

Although the church is off the main road and on a quiet lane please take care when turning into the lane from the main A4130 as the road is a fast one with the dual carriageway ending at the junction. This was actually one of the first sections of dual carriage way in the country being built back in 1937.
The coordinates are for a parking spot - but avoid using this when there is a service on as there are a number of elderly parishoners who rely on this being close to the entrance of the church. Alternative parking can be found just round the corner at N 51 33.695 W 000 57.073 please use this one if the parking is full with churchgoers or dog walkers and avoid blocking any of the drives.

The "new" church of St. James Bix
This chuch was built in 1974 as a replacement for an older one - also called St. James' - which was the parish church for Bix Gibwyn. That was abandoned when the parishes of Bix Gibwyn and Bix Brand were amalgamated to become just Bix in the late Middle Ages. The original location of the original Bix Gibwyn chuch is still open to some conjecture although the South Oxfordshire Archaeological Group (soagarch.co.uk) has carried out a significant amount of work which points to an area about 3/4 of a mile to the north of the present location. The ruins of the original church of Bix Brand, which was abandoned a year after the new one was completed, are much easier to to find about a quarter of a mile beyond that.

The cache
To locate the cache you will need to find a row of headstones which a memorials to people who died outside the parish or were originally from outside the parish:
  • John Francis Lethbridge died outside the parish.
    • The country where is perished has how many letters? This is A
    • How old was he when he died? This is BC
  • Peter Lethbridge died in America in 19DE
  • Ethel Little (nee Fallows) grew up in a seaside town with how many letters in its name? This is F

The NEW location (as of January 2019!) of the final cache is: N 51 33.(D-1)CB W 000 57.(A-2*B)(F-1)E
