Geocache Description:

A walk up a steep hill from Te Hapua Bay (Scenic Bay)to Karangahape road and return walk down hill back to lake. You can also access the path from Karangahape road off western bay rd SH32

You will need to access the road off SH32 and turn down Karangahape road to the parking spot or access from the lake and leave your boat in Te Hapua Bay. Watch the weather closely as the lake blows up quickly

This is the beginning of a poled walk down to Picnic Bay. Open the gate and remember to close it

and seek out poles with red triangle and make your way down the grassy hill to another gate. Once

through this gate the path is clearer and wanders through bush and shady trees. The cache is

hidden to the left of the path going down towards the lake, It is in a small metal container with log

strip and room for swaps. Bring your own pencil.

If you continue on you will reach the lake at Te Hapua Bay This is a very pleasant spot although camping is not permitted but there is limited anchoring for one or two boats properly moored fore and aft. There is a poled walk back up through Doc reserve to the Karangahape rd.

There are three caches to be gained with a bit of exercise. One at the beginning at the parking spot

in Karangahape Road and the other after a steep rocky climb in Picnic bay.

If you start in Picnic or Te Hapua Bay it's all uphill to the road and will take about half an hour.

Terrain reflects the effort required to reach Te Hapua bay by water and the climb up to the road
