Le cascate del Gorello
Saturnia


Le cascate del Gorello (chiamate anche "cascate del Mulino" o semplicemente "le Cascatelle")
sono delle cascate generate da un ruscello di acqua termale, il Gorello appunto, che sgorga da una sorgente di natura vulcanica ad una temperatura di 37,5°C.

Dalla sorgente delle terme, le acque scorrono lungo il ruscello, fino a raggiungere un dislivello all’altezza del Mulino, dove cadono creando delle cascate, sotto le quali si trovano numerose vasche scavate nella roccia di Travertine.

Prima di sgorgare a circa 800 litri al secondo, l’acqua di Saturnia fa un lungo viaggio sotterraneo seguendo la formazione di calcari cavernosi che si estende nella parte pedemontana della bassa Toscana. Il percorso incomincia in una zona di ricarica alle pendici del Monte Amiata e l’acqua permane nel sottosuolo, filtrando lentamente goccia a goccia attraverso le micro fessure della roccia, per circa 40 anni prima di emergere, mentre una copertura argillosa, dello spessore di oltre 60 metri, la isola da ogni contatto con l’esterno.

Fai un bel bagno rilassante in queste vasche naturali mentre ti dedichi a questo Earthcache. Non ci sono costi di accesso.

The Gorello waterfalls (also named Mills waterfalls)
are waterfalls generated by a stream of thermal water, named Gorello, that pours out from a vulcanic spring at a temperature of 37.5 ° C.

From this thermal spring , the water runs along the stream Gorello, until it reaches a saltation next to a mill, where it creates waterfalls, under which there are many tanks natural bassins shaped into the rock made of Travertine.

Before gushing at about 800 liters per second, the water of Saturnia makes a long subterranean journey following the formation of cavernous limestone that extends in the foothills of southern Tuscany. The route begins in a charging area on the slopes of Monte Amiata where the water remains in the subsoil, filtering slowly drop after drop through micro cracks in the rock, for about 40 years isolated from the outside by a more than 60 meters thick clay cover, before emerging.
