Geo Bike Tour (Guimarães-Fafe) Wherigo Cache

A linha de caminho de ferro entre Guimarães e Fafe, numa extensão de 22 quilómetros, foi construída pela Companhia do Caminho de Ferro de Guimarães entre 1903 e 1907. Até à década de 80 do século XX, o comboio foi um dos meios de transporte privilegiados que efectuava a ligação entre o Porto, Trofa, Guimarães e Fafe. O declínio deste meio de transporte, consequência da concorrência dos transportes rodoviários públicos e privados, conjuntamente com os elevados custos relativos à modernização da linha de caminho de ferro e equipamentos associados, resultaram no encerramento desta em 1986.

Durante 10 anos, isto é, até 1996, a linha do caminho de ferro, então desactivada, foi somente usada pelos habitantes das localidades confinantes à via, que aproveitavam este corredor para ‘encurtar’ distâncias nas suas deslocações diárias.

Em 1986 a antiga linha ferroviária que unia as cidades de Guimarães e Fafe foi desactivada, sendo mais tarde transformada em Ecopista.
Em 1996, a Câmara Municipal de Fafe, abriu ao público a Pista de Cicloturismo de Fafe, com uma extensão de seis quilómetros, desde Fareja até Foz, estendendo-se por zonas predominantemente rurais. Em 1999 a Câmara Municipal de Guimarães completava o trajecto e inaugurava a Pista de Cicloturismo no Concelho de Guimarães, fazendo a ligação entre a Fareja e a Devesa, na Freguesia de Mesão Frio, com um Percurso de cariz mais suburbano.
Assim, a Pista de Cicloturismo Guimarães-Fafe com cerca de 14km, vai desde a Freguesia de Mesão Frio, no Concelho de Guimarães, a cerca de três quilómetros do centro da cidade, até ao Lugar de Foz, a cerca de um quilómetro do centro da cidade de Fafe.

O piso é asfaltado e tem pintado no centro um traço contínuo branco que separa o tráfego nos dois sentidos com largueza suficiente. 
Também possui sinalização Vertical e Horizontal específica.
Todo o percurso está devidamente sinalizado com sinalética e informação vertical e horizontal.

Este cartridge é um convite para quem se quiser divertir um pouco e participar nesta etapa do Geo Bike Tour de Portugal que vai ligar Guimarães a Fafe. Esta primeira etapa vai decorrer na Ciclopista criada na antiga linha de caminhos-de-ferro que ligava estas duas cidades com uma distancia de cerca de 14km.

Depois de fazer o download do Cartridge tens de te dirigir ao “Início” e começar o passeio. Pelo caminho vais encontrar 5 “Metas Volantes” escondidas em que vais marcar pontos pois só assim tens a cesso a Geocache quando chegares a “Meta”. 

Atenção:

<sup>- Deve utilizar uma bicicleta e o equipamento de proteção habitual para realizar este Cartridge.
- Deve ter a bateria carregada para conseguir completar o Cartridge.
- Deve ter o som ligado e no máximo para ouvir quando tiver uma notificação, assim não precisa de estar sempre a olhar para o ecrã.
- A “Meta” esta sempre visível no Cartridge mas atenção que a distancia para a mesma durante a viagem por vezes aumenta devido as curvas da Ciclopista. 
- Para encontrar a cache terá de percorrer a pista até a Meta e depois voltar ao Início, pois a cache encontra-se escondida no caminho de regresso. Lembre-se que para tal terá de percorrer cerca de 28km.</sup>

The railway line between Guimarães and Fafe in an extension of 22 kilometers, was built by the Companhia do Caminho de Ferro de Guimarães between 1903 and 1907. Until the 80s of the twentieth century, the train was one of the privileged means of transport which provided the link between Porto, Trofa, Guimarães and Fafe. The decline of this means of transport, a result of competition from public and private road transport, together with the high costs of modernization of the railway line and associated equipment, resulted in the closure of this in 1986.

For 10 years, that is until 1996, the railway, then deactivated it was only used by the inhabitants of neighboring localities, which took advantage of this corridor to 'shorten' walking distances in their daily commuting.

In 1986 the old railway line linking the cities of Guimarães and Fafe was disabled and was later transformed into an Ecotrail.
In 1996, the Municipality of Fafe, opened to the public the Fafe Cycling Trail, with a length of six kilometers from Fareja to Foz, extending for predominantly rural areas. In 1999 the Municipality of Guimarães completed the route and inaugurated the Guimarães Cycling Trail, making the link between Fareja and Mesão Frio, with a more suburban-oriented course.
Thus, the Guimarães-Fafe Cycling trail has about 14km, goes from Mesão Frio, in the municipality of Guimarães, about three kilometers from the city center, to the Foz, about one kilometer from the Fafe city center.

The floor is paved and has painted in the center a white solid line separating the traffic in both directions. The entire route is clearly marked with signs and vertical and horizontal information.

This cartridge is an invitation for those who want to have some fun and take part in this stage of Geo Bike Tour of Portugal that will connect Guimarães to Fafe. This stage will take place on the Bicycle Trail established on the old railway line linking these two cities with a distance of about 14km.

After downloading the cartridge you have to go to the "Start"  to begin the tour. Along the way you will find 5 hidden "Checkpoints" in that you will score points so then when you get to the "Finish" you can find the Geocache. 

Attention:

<sup>- You should use a Bike and the usual protection equipment to play this Cartridge.
- You must have the battery full charged to complete the Cartridge.
- You must have the sond on to hear when you have a notification, so you don't need to always be looking at the screen.
- The "Finish" is always visible in the cartridge but note that the distance to it while traveling sometimes increases due to the curves of the Bicycle Trail.
- To find the cache you will have to go through the trail to the Finish and then return to the Start, because the cache is hidden on the  way back. Remember that to do so you will have to go about 28km.</sup>
