Geocache Description:

HUGELY IMPORTANT LATEST NEWS!: An episode of Chuckle Vision was filmed in the Mausoleum recently!! Watch it by clicking here!

Above West Wycombe is a steep, conical hill, apon which St Lawrence’s church, topped with its Golden Dome rests, overlooking the surrounding countryside for miles around. Below lie the Hellfire Caves, man made caverns created in part to obtain materials to build the main road into High Wycombe. Unmissable if taking the road by car to the summit, a massive gothic style entrance welcomes visitors who can venture inside for a small fee, well worth it if local history and hear'say enthrawls you like it does us. - Quote taken from afallon.com: "Benjamin Franklin – moved its revels to a more secluded site at West Wycombe Caves. It was here that stories started to circulate that as well as drunkenness, they were also indulging in black magic ceremonies."

THIS CACHE IS PERFECT FOR AFTER DARK, REMEMBER TO BRING A TORCH AT NIGHT! OR YOU COULD GO WITHOUT ONE....

Dan and Pid planted this Cache on Wednesday the 26th of June 2002, The cache is a plastic container, which replaces the glass urn which lasted over 5 years before meeting a sorry end.

Take a stroll through the graveyard, be sure to take in the Church globe and its views (you can enter the church and climb to the top on some days, check the church door for details of opening times) these are some of the best scenes in the chilterns guaranteed, although ascending into the globe itself is no longer permitted due to vandelism.

We suggest parking at these Co-Ordinates: N51 38.892 W000 48.361, To get there from the village, follow the signs to the caves, carry on past them following the same road all the way to the top of the hill, where a large free car park awaits. If you fancy a more energetic outing, you could always park in the village garden centre car park, from where a steep hill walk is available, either along the road or straight up the side!

After completing the cache, be sure to check out the George and Dragon Pub in West Wycombe not to far from the cache site, apparently it's one of the most haunted pubs in Britain. If you get stroked by cold fingers, beware, Sukie's about! The ghost of a local girl who was stoned to death by village boys after a prank misfired. Along with a supernatural experience you can also get a great lunch here plus a good selection of local pints. Read More about the pub here...

Enjoy this cache, and enjoy the area. Good Luck, Dan and Pid...
