Geocache Description:

*** OFFICIAL UTAH GEOTOUR GEOCACHE***

THE GEOCACHE CONTAINER IS AT THE POSTED COORDINATES, BUT YOU WILL NEED TO FIND THE NUMBERS ON THE TOWER TO OPEN IT AND LOG YOUR FIND. BRING YOUR OWN PEN.

Special Thanks to Andrea and Mike at the Nature Conservancy for their permission and help with the cache placement, and to Cache MACS for archiving his cool cache at this location to allow this cache to be placed here!!!

SOMEWHERE ON THE TOWER ARE FOUR NUMBERS, WRITE THE NUMBERS DOWN FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM.

THE CACHE IS A KEY HOLDER WITH A COMBINATION LOCK. THE NUMBERS ON THE TOWER, FROM TOP TO BOTTOM, ARE THE COMBINATION.

IN THE FUTURE WE WILL BE REPLACING THIS CACHE WITH A LARGE CONTAINER AND TRAVEL BUG HOTEL, SO COME BACK AND CHECK IT OUT AGAIN WHEN THAT HAPPENS. THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT LOGS AND ENJOY YOUR TIME AT THE SHORELANDS PRESERVE.

The preserve is located along the eastern shore of the Great Salt Lake between Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area and the Antelope Island State Park Causeway. It is free and open year round. The center features an open-air pavilion, elevated boardwalk trail (1 mile), and a 30 foot high observation tower.

The wetlands of the Great Salt Lake provide important nesting and foraging habitat for over 250 species of birds. The lake is a critical link in the Pacific Flyway between North and South America. In fact, so many birds (between four and six million!) visit, feed and nest at the lake and its wetlands annually, it has been named as one of only seventeen sites of Hemispheric Importance in the Western Hemispheric Shorebird Reserve Network, an internationally important designation.
