Geocache Description:

Counterslip Baptist Church is popular family church that has stood in this location since the 1950s, before this it was located on the Counterslip near Bristol Bridge. The church was founded in 1804 when 49 members of the declining Pithay Church left founding there own church at Tailor’s Court, they held their first service on the 12th of November 1804. By 1810 the members of the congregation were numbering 70, it was at this point they moved to Counterslip and acquired the name that it is still known by till this day.
Another FTF to silverfox11, congratulations to him.
The church steadily grew in numbers, by 1822 as it’s members now numbered well over 200 and by the mid-1870s there numbers were now around 500 causing them them to once again move, this time to Victoria Street where they built a new chapel. They stayed here until the 1940s when it was bombed like much of bristol in world war II, this caused them to use several temporary locations until they moved to the Hengrove Hall in Whitchurch. In 1948 they moved to there current location where two temporary structures were erected, a main church building and a hall. Finally in 1957 The construction of there current church began, once more opening it’s doors on the 28th of June.
