Geocache Description:

On the shore of my favourite lake in Gatineau Park

Another cache that is a bit of an outing to get to, not just a quick dash out of the car with the engine running. Take a picnic lunch and swimwear. Total round trip from nearest parking is approximately 8km, consisting of roads/trail (mountain bikes permitted) and a bit of bushwhack at the end. If you are hiking, you can make it a little longer and do a nice loop, check the map.

The cache is right next to an isolated large (4m tall) boulder, underneath a small overhang on one side. From the end of the marked trail, you can see it, 270m away across water (get an accurate bearing with the GPS arrow). From this point you could do it without the GPS - for an extra challenge you could plot it on a topo map and leave the GPS at home and do it with just traditional navigation techniques! Or, if it's a nice day and you're thus inclined, you could swim the 270m.

The bushwhack portion is best done by staying on high ground to avoid wet spots. Perhaps you will find the unmarked trail that I took for part of the way.

The container is the usual 1 gallon transparent plastic type. The initial contents are:

  • "Puffer the Puffin" beanie baby
  • First Aid Kit
  • Bonsai Kit
  • Pewter howling wolf keychain
  • Ottawa Senators leather/pewter key fob
  • Box of coloured pushpins
  • Thermometer mounted on a miniature ski and poles
  • Various small kids' toys
Trade away. Leave container upright again for maximum waterproofness (the screw lid does not fully seal) and store nothing edible.
