80 jaar scouting de Zwervers
Deze cache is geplaatst naar aanleiding van het 80 jarige bestaan van scoutinggroep de Zwervers Groningen in 2015. Om de cache te kunnen vinden moet je eerst een route afleggen die je langs een vijftal van de locaties voert waar de Zwervers door de jaren heen hebben gezeten. Op deze manier willen we iets van de rijke historie van de Zwervers met jullie delen.
De route start op bovenstaande coördinaten, dit is locatie 1. De totale route is ongeveer 4,5 km lang en is zowel fietsend als lopend te doen. Hou er rekening mee dat beginpunt en eindpunt van de route zo’n 2,5 km uit elkaar liggen.

De geschiedenis van De Zwervers begint in 1928. Toen is Gruno’s Garde opgericht, dit was een christelijke jeugdvereniging, waarbij clubs en afdelingen zich konden aansluiten. Zo was er een jeugdkoor, reciteerclub, mondaccordeonclub en ook een fietsclub. De ongeveer 13 leden van de fietsclub fietsten regelmatig naar een bosrijke omgeving, zoals de Appelbergen of de Scharlakenhof en gingen daar pionieren, knopen leggen of EHBO oefenen.
In 1935 kwam de vraag bij de fietsclub om een padvindersclub te vormen en in dat jaar is de Christelijke padvindersgroep de Zwervers opgericht. Er werd gekozen voor het dragen van een oranje das.
Locatie 1:

Je staat nu voor Violenstraat 20. Dit is een pand dat in 1935 dienst deed als school. Waarschijnlijk gebruikte Gruno’s Garde in dit gebouw een aantal lokalen en in één van die lokalen is scoutinggroep de Zwervers waarschijnlijk opgericht.
Beantwoord hier de volgende vraag:

Vervolgens vertrok de groep naar achtereenvolgens ruimtes aan de Jacobijnerstraat en het Gedempte Boterdiep. Dit was in de periode tussen 1935 en 1940.
In de Tweede Wereldoorlog was de padvinderij verboden, maar in het geheim werden er door leden van de Zwervers toch nog activiteiten georganiseerd. Een aantal leden gingen in de oorlog verder als Evangelische Jeugd Club. Zo werden ze door de Duitsers met rust gelaten en konden ze tot op zekere hoogte doorgaan met het scoutingspel.
De Evangelische Jeugd Club kwam in de oorlogsjaren waarschijnlijk samen aan de Folkingestraat 44a, waar toen het evangelisatiegebouw “Rehoboth” zat.
Na het einde van WOII werden de Zwervers weer actief en in 1946 ontstond de zeeverkennersgroep de Otters uit de Zwervers. Inmiddels zitten de Zwervers in een pand aan de Javalaan, dat in 1948 weer wordt verlaten.

Op nummer 8 zie je het pand waar de Zwervers in 1948 naar toe gingen.

In januari 1950 keerde zeeverkennerstroep de Otters terug naar de Zwervers. Zij hadden een blauwe das en die werd samengevoegd met de oranje das van de Zwervers. Zo ontstond de oranje/blauwe das die alle Zwervers-leden tot op heden nog steeds dragen.
Korte tijd later werd een andere scoutinggroep, de Stanley-groep, opgeheven en zij voegden zich ook bij de Zwervers. Hierdoor werd het noodzakelijk te verhuizen naar een locatie waar meer ruimte was. Gelukkig was het pand waar de Stanley-groep zat groot genoeg en dus verhuisden de Zwervers in 1950 daarheen.
Overigens wordt de naam Stanley nog steeds gebruikt door de 18+ speltak van de Zwervers, zij heten de Stanleystam.
Locatie 3:

Je staat nu bij de plek waar het inmiddels gesloopte pand stond waar de Zwervers in 1950 heen verhuisden. Dit was op nummer 11. Daar is nu een flatgebouw, waarschijnlijk stond het gebouw waar de Zwervers in zaten op ongeveer dezelfde plek.
Beantwoord hier de volgende vraag:
Hoeveel balkons zie je aan deze kant van de flat? Dit is C.
Er was weinig geld voor onderhoud, waardoor het pand steeds verder achteruit ging. Er werd door de leden wel veel vrije tijd in onderhoud gestoken, maar dat mocht niet of nauwelijks baten. Er werd dus gezocht naar een betere huisvesting. Die werd in september 1968 gevonden. Dit betrof een jeugdgebouw, dat gedeeld werd met nog een aantal andere jeugdorganisaties.
Locatie 4:

Op nummer 4 was het gebouw waar de Zwervers in 1968 een nieuwe huisvesting vonden. Helaas is het pand inmiddels gesloopt en vervangen door nieuwbouw.

In 1977 voegde de meisjesgroep Lies Evertsgroep zich bij de Zwervers. Meisjes waren al lange tijd welkom bij De Zwervers, maar zij draaiden altijd in aparte groepen. Met de komst van de Lies Evertsgroep werd besloten om in gemengde groepen te gaan draaien. Hiermee liepen de Zwervers voorop in de landelijke ontwikkelingen.
Pas in 1985 verhuisden de Zwervers weer. In ons inmiddels lange bestaan hadden we nooit een eigen pand gehad en het pand dat we tot 1985 gebruikten moesten we ook delen met andere gebruikers. De wens bestond dus om een eigen gebouw te bezitten. In 1985 kwam deze wens uit toen de Zwervers een oud schoolgebouw van de gemeente konden kopen op een prachtige plek. Voordat we die locatie betrokken zaten we korte tijd in een ander gebouwtje aan dezelfde straat.

Hier hoef je geen vraag te beantwoorden, dus als je rechtstreeks naar locatie 5 wilt, kun je dit punt overslaan.
Locatie 5:

Als je hier richting het noorden kijkt zie je het gebouwtje waar de Zwervers in 1985 korte tijd in hebben gezeten. Het wordt nu gebruikt door scoutinggroep Impeesa. Als je naar het zuiden kijkt zie je "De Til”, het gebouw waar de Zwervers sinds 1985 met zeer veel plezier gebruik van maken.

In 1995 is ons gebouw grootschalig verbouwd. Dit hebben de leden van de Zwervers grotendeels zelf gedaan. In deze periode is ook de Prins Willem Alexandergroep opgegaan in de Zwervers. Op dit moment bestaat onze groep uit zo’n 180 personen.
Je hebt nu alle informatie om de locatie van de cache te kunnen berekenen. Als je dat liever zittend wilt doen loop je een klein stukje in westelijke richting en dan zie je aan de linkerkant een speeltuintje en een vijver met een aantal bankjes.

Let op: de cache moet vanaf openbaar terrein benaderd worden. Als je een zwart metalen hek en/of een houten hek passeert ben je te ver!
Ook door de week wordt ons gebouw dagelijks gebruikt; als er mensen aanwezig zijn, stoor ze niet.

80 years Scouting De Zwervers
This cache has been placed in response to the 80th anniversary of Scouting Groep “De Zwervers” (“De Zwervers” is a Dutch name meaning The Wanderers). To find the cache, you will travel a route which leads past five of the locations that have housed “De Zwervers” during the years. This way we want to share with you parts of the rich history of this Scouting Group.

The history of “De Zwervers” starts in 1928. In that year Gruno’s Guard was founded. Gruno’s Guard was a christian youth association which allowed different clubs and organisations to join them. Examples of the organisations that joined the Gruno’s Guard were a youth choir, a recital club, a club for harmonica players and also a cycling club. The approximately thirteen members of this cycling club regularly biked to a woody environment like Appelbergen en Scharlakenhof. There they made structures with ropes and wood, learned to tie knots and practised First Aid. In 1935 the cycling club was asked to form a Scouting group en in that year the Christian Scouting group “De Zwervers” was founded. They chose to wear a orange tie with their uniform.

Subsequently the group has used in succesion rooms at the Jacobijnerstraat en het Gedempte Boterdiep This was in the period between 1935 en 1940. In World War II the Germans had forbidden Scouting, but members of “De Zwervers” still organised some activities in secret. A few members continued as a Evangelical Youth Group. This way they were left alone by the Germans and were able to continue to a certain extent their scouting activities. It is likely that the Evangelical Youth club met at the Folkingestraat 44a, where at the time the evangelism building “Rehoboth” was established.
At the end of World War II “De Zwervers” became active again and in 1946 the Sea Scouting Group The Otters came forth from “De Zwervers”. At that time “De Zwervers” were housed in a building in the Javalaan, which they left in 1948.

In january 1950 the Sea Scouting Group the Otters rejoined “De Zwervers”. They wore a blue tie and this was combined with the orange tie of “De Zwervers”. This way the orange-blue tie came into being, that is worn by all members of “De Zwervers” to this day. Not long after another Scouting Group, the Stanley Group, was disbanded and also joined “De Zwervers”. This made it necessary to move to another location which had more space. Luckily the building in which the Stanley Group was housed was large enough, so “De Zwervers” moved in 1950 to this location. By the way, the name Stanley is stil used by the 18+ chapter of “De Zwervers”. They are called the Stanley Stam.

You are now standing at the location where “De Zwervers” moved to in 1950. The building does not exist anymore, it has been demolished. It was located at number 11. Nowadays this is an apartment buiding, but the building that housed “De Zwervers” was probably located near this spot.

The building continued to deteriorate because there was not enough money for maintenance. Members of the scouting group invested quite a lot of their free time in the maintance, but to little or no avail. Therefore they continued to search for better housing. This was found in 1968 in the form of a building for youth groups. They shared the building with other youth organisations.

The building where “De Zwervers” found new housing was located at number 4. Sadly the building has been demolished and was replaced with newly built houses.

In 1977 the girl scouts group Lies Evertsgroep joined “De Zwervers”. Girls had already for a long time been welcome to join “De Zwervers”, but they participated in different groups. With the arrival of de Lies Evertsgroep it was decided to function in mixed groups. By doing this “De Zwervers” where in the frontline of national developments. “De Zwervers” moved again in 1985. During their long existence, they never had had their own building. The building they used until 1985 was shared with other users. Therefore they started longing to own their own builing. In 1985 this wish came to fulfillment when “De Zwervers” wereable to purchase and old schoolbuilding from the town council. The building was in a beautiful location. Just prior to moving the group was housed for a short time in a building in the same street.

In 1995 this building has undergone major renovation. For the biggest part this has been done by members of “De Zwervers” themselves. In this period the Prins Willem Alexandergroep also was absorbed by “De Zwervers”. At this moment “De Zwervers” has about 180 members.
