Andrew Carnegie provided funding for over 2500 libraries between 1883 and 1929 with 660 of them in the UK and Ireland. Thurso is fortunate to have one of these buildings.
At first the libraries were in places with which he had a connection e.g. his hometown, but in the later years almost every town which requested a grant was approved.
