Sao and Khem beaches are both curving stretches of fine white sand backed by tropical trees, in the southeast of the Island. Sao is one of the most popular beaches on the island, while Khem is rarely visited because access is usually denied by military personnel who control the area. Sao Beach, with its arcing palm trees, snow-white sand and distinctive blue-sapphire coloured water, has been increasingly developed over the last few years. There are restaurants, bars, resorts, and water-sports on offer here. It can get reasonably crowded on sunny days during peak months (December to March), but this still doesn’t detract from the exotic beauty of this beach, particularly the vibrant colours of the sand, water, sky and foliage here. Accessed by a red-dirt road, be careful, motorcycles, taxis and buses can not drive more than 5km / h.
It is expected easy access in 2016.
The cache is not on the road to the beach but on the heights. Going south by NGUYEN VAN CU street,you take the pathway on your left at way point N 10° 3.447 E 104° 1.045. Is at 320m from the pathway going to Sao Beach. Drive to the cache for 720m on a concreted floor. You may later continue the pathway for about 1200m and be at only 300m from Sao Beach who is 300m bellow.Note that this part of the beach can be filled with rubbish brought by storms. Use the another road to reach the real beach (see map picture attached)
From the cache,you will have a breathtaking view to the north.The place is private but if the owner is present, he will welcome you with pleasure. Simply show him your GPS and the direction you want to take.If no one is present, go directly to the cache.
On the Nguyen Van Cu street,you can visit the Historic Site Phu Quoc Prison museum (not recommended for kids and sensitive people) who is at only 1500m south from the starting pathway to the cache.
On the other side of the road, you can also visit the fish sauce factory.
That would make me very happy if you decorate your logs with pictures of you.
Remark! At the date of 17 march 2016 there is a lot of works around the cache area and the tree is gone. I will wait for the stability of the area before to publish new coordinates.
