Geocache Description:

Number 409 in a series of caches where a red telephone box is in close proximity to a post box.

The only rules are that they have to be able to be photographed together, be not more than 100’ apart and the phone boxes have to be red.

A rare and beautifully well-maintained example of a fast-disappearing Fine Pair. The telephone box is not in use but kept bright red and shiny.

The cache is not at the given coordinates.

To calculate the coordinates for the cache, you need to find the following information at the above given coordinates:

Find the collection times on the post box:

A = time (first digit) of the last collection Mon – Fri

B = time (first digit) of later collection made at Chillerton Post Office

C = time (first digit) of collection on Saturday

D = time (first digit) of latest collection in the area made in Newport

Find the post box number :

There are 4 numbers between the letters PO and D:

E = 1st digit

F = 2nd digit

G = 3rd digit

H = 4th digit

The cache can be found a short distance away at:

N50° EA.HE(C-D) W001° G(C+H).(A-G)A(B-G)

There is free parking available along the High Street nearby.

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.

The Fine Pair series was originally started by wizardsmum.

If anybody would like to place 'A Fine Pair' of their own please do, I would just ask that you let mattd2k at geocachingafinepair@gmail.com know first so he can keep track of the numbers and locations to avoid duplication.

He also keeps a public Bookmark List of this series so once your cache is published please contact him via his profile page to have yours added.

Please be aware that at the request of BT, it is not permitted to place the cache inside or on the exterior of the telephone box.
