Geocache Description:

This geocache is one of twenty Historical Geo-Passport geocaches within the South Nation Jurisdiction. For more information on this series of geocaches, please visit South_Nation.

This is a regular sized geocache hidden along the trails of the wildlife area.

Within the jurisdiction of the South Nation Conservation authority is a Ministry of Natural resources wildlife area known as the Mountain Provincial Wildlife area, near the village of Mountain.

This provincial wildlife area is situated in the former Winchester Bog, a 2000 hectare wetland that once supported extensive bog vegetation. Because of past drainage efforts, the area is now mostly a poplar and willow-alder shrub swamp. While there are no formal walking trails, the wildlife area can be accessed by trails that follow the ditches. Some artificial ponds have been created; these support frogs and Midland Painted Turtles. The usual birds of scrubby wetlands, such as American Woodcock, Swamp Sparrow, Common Yellowthroat, and Yellow Warbler, can be seen. There are a large population of Wood Frogs.
