Geocache Description:

Get your gardening gloves, boots, spades, shovels, high viz tops and help us dig in with some natives!

The MEGA team has been working with the Te Kōhaka o Tūhaitara Trust to give back to the Tūhaitara Coastal Park.

When: Sunday 25th Oct 1-4pm

We'll meet at the posted coords and go find ourselves a biota node!

"What's a biota node?" I hear you asking.

Well...

The Trust has started developing a series of biota nodes which will form a spine of native plants along the length of the Park. These nodes are based around permanent water holes approximately 400m apart and will be planted with berry and nectar producing native plants to encourage birds to and from them.

Over time each area will slowly increase as will the plant species. Birds will help with the transfer and propagation of native species between these nodes. It is also likely that we will, in conjunction with the Department of Conservation be able to relocate native species including mudfish to these nodes over time.

We will also be looking for schools and groups to adopt a node to help with their development and to use as educational resources.

That's where we come in, we'll be planting out a node.

There are limited spades, shovels and high viz vest supplied by the trust. If you are local please bring some of these items and if you have spare kit bring it along for our out of town guest.
