The Cache
The cache is a simple magnetic nano which can be treated as a drive-by, although parking is rather precarious within the village. Please park considerately.
The cache is located near the Methodist Chapel which can be seen as you approach from Great Ayton. If you walk a short distance along the road you will be afforded a fine view of the private chapel within the grounds of Easby Hall.
Easby Methodist Chapel
A Short History
Nestling in Easby Parish on a quiet junction to the west of Low Easby, with views towards Easby Moor, the Esk Valley and Cleveland Hills, Easby Methodist Chapel in its current location has welcomed worshippers for nearly two hundred years.
Easby Methodist Chapel forms part of the Stokesley Methodist Circuit within Darlington District.
Currently, a small but committed group of Christians meet regularly each Sunday for worship at 14:00, with the exception of the first Sunday in the month when All Age Worship service commences at 10.30. Services are led by one of the circuit ministers or by a lay preacher or worship leader.
Regular prayer meetings take place during the week. All are welcome to join in prayer or spend some peaceful time in quiet contemplation.
Easby Chapel
A chapel existed in Easby in the 14th century, when a commission was issued for its dedication. It must have fallen into disuse before the reign of Edward VI, unless it is to be identified with an unnamed chantry mentioned elsewhere in records. A tenement and garden called Chapel Garth and Hurstfield Close, belonging to the late chantry of Easby, were granted to Sir Francis Walsingham and Francis Mylles in 1587.
In 1881 Mr. James Emerson, lord of the manor of Easby, built a new chapel in which service is conducted by the vicar of Kirkby in Cleveland as his private chaplain.
