Lagoon of Fogo

Localizada no Concelho da Ribeira Grande e Vila Franca do Campo, com uma altitude de 575m, com seu comprimento máximo de 2280m, com sua largura máxima de 985m e a sua profundidade atinge os 30m.

Esta Lagoa, localiza-se no topo do Vulcão do Fogo, onde se originou uma caldeira de colapso, de forma elíptica e com dimensões aproximadas de 3*2,5km. Esta Caldeira vulcânica, a mais pequena e a mais jovem da Ilha de São Miguel, ter-se-á formado há cerca de 15000 anos, embora a sua configuração actual resulte, em grande parte, do último colapso importante, ocorrido no topo deste vulcão há, aproximadamente, 5000 anos. A última erupção ocorrida data do ano de 1563.

Islet of Vila Franca do Campo

Situado em frente à povoação de Vila Franca do Campo, a cerca de 1 km da costa, este local é o resultado da cratera de um antigo vulcão submerso, considerando uma das principais atrações turísticas da ilha.

Classificado como Reserva Natural, tem as paredes da sua cratera revestidas por uma vegetação endémica, enquanto no seu interior existe uma piscina natural com uma forma quase perfeitamente circular, que comunica com o mar por uma estreita passagem. Esta abertura é designada por Boquete e está voltada a Norte, isto é na direção da costa da ilha, o que impede a entrada da agitação marítima para o interior. As suas águas cristalinas e a pequena, mas encantadora praia, são excelentes para a prática de natação e mergulho.

Situated opposite the town of Vila Franca do Campo, about 1 km from the coast, this site is the result of the crater of an ancient submerged volcano, considering one of the main attractions of the island.

Classified as Nature Reserve, has walls of its crater covered with endemic vegetation, while inside there is a natural swimming pool with an almost perfectly circular shape, which communicates with the sea through a narrow passage. This opening is called Boquete and faces north, ie towards the island's coast, which prevents the entry of sea waves inland. Its crystal clear waters and a small but lovely beach, are excellent for the practice of swimming and diving.
