Geocache Description:

War Memorial Cache #96 We will remember them ~ Coundon.

The original memorial soldier was unveiled on 24th September 1921 but had to be removed in the 1960's because of decay and deterioration of the concrete structure although some reports state it was down to vandalism. A group of local people formed the Save Our Soldier Committee which, in partnership with Wear Valley District Council and Groundwork West Durham, actioned the communities desire to create a new memorial.
This new stone soldier was proudly dedicated on Remembrance Sunday 11th November 2007
