Geocache Description:

17 Den2Den was taken apparently away by a local home owner so this series has been re-routed now via the old Bill and Ted no. 17. Hopefully avoiding any future issues in the woodland.

This 8 mile route starts in the village of Rolvenden and follows part of the High Weald Landscape Trail up to Benenden and back in a circular route.

The village of Rolvenden dates from Saxon times. The name 'Rolvenden' may originate from a chieftain Hropwulf, and would refer to the 'den or pasture of Hropwulf's people'. Den is the jutish word for swine pastures coming to connote the same but with associated hamlets or isolated farmsteads as well as in many instances cultivated land.

Rolvenden is listed in the Domesday Book, as "Rovindene". In the reign of Edward III this was changed to Riolvinden, and then changed again to Rounden in the late 17th century.

Benenden is a village and civil parish in the Tunbridge Wells District of Kent, England. The parish is located on the Weald six miles to the west of Tenterden. In addition to the main village, Iden Green, East End, Dingleden and Standen Street settlements are included in the parish.
