Lapin sodan muistomerkki
FI: Lapin sodan Kivirannan – Vojakkalan taisteluiden 6. – 8.10.1944 muistomerkki paljastettiin 10.6.1990. Se on nimetty suomalaisten ja saksalaisten rauhan muistomerkiksi.
Jatkosodan päättymisen seurauksena syyskuussa 1944 syntynyt Lapin sota toi itse sodan Lappiin ja niin myös Kivirannan kylään. Kylän asukkaat joutuivat evakkoon Pohjois-Ruotsiin. Kylän pohjoisosassa aina opiston pohjoispuolella olevaa kiviaitaa myöten käytiin kiivaat taistelut suomalaisten ja saksalaisten välillä osana Tornion taisteluja. Taistelukentän alueelta kylä tuhoutui lähes täydellisesti.
Tilanne kärjistyi 6. lokakuuta osapuolten voimasuhteiden ollessa lähes tasaväkiset. Suomalaisilla oli paikalla kymmenen pataljoonaa jalkaväkeä, saksalaisilla kuusi pataljoonaa jalkaväkeä ja tukena tykistöä. Aamulla suomalaiset saivat kuitenkin Röyttään yhden patteriston kenttätykistöä, joka iltapäivällä osallistui jo taisteluihin.
Saksalaiset olivat ottaneet tiukasti haltuunsa alueelta johtavat tiet. Perjantaina 6. lokakuuta vahvistuksia saaneet suomalaisjoukot hyökkäsivät käyttäen hyväkseen teiden väliin jäävää maastoa, ja koukkasivat Tornion pohjoispuolelle Keropudasjoelle saksalaisten selustaan. Operaatio onnistui täydellisesti ja saksalaisjoukot joutuivat kolme kilometriä pitkään mottiin Tornionjoen rannalle. Kiivaiden ulosmurtautumisyritysten jälkeen saksalaiset onnistuivat yöllä murtamaan saartorenkaan ja osa joukoista pääsi Tornionjoen rantatörmää pitkin pakoon. Motista saksalaisia kaatui ainakin 400–500 sotilasta, vangiksi jäi 337 miestä.
Kemin suunnassa taisteluosasto Krenzer aloitti kiivaan hyökkäyksen Raumojoelta kohti Torniota. Joukot pääsivät erittäin raskain tappioin lähes suomalaisasemiin asti, viimeiset miehet kaatuivat parin metrin päähän suomalaisasemista, kunnes hyökkäys lyötiin takaisin. Päivän aikana taistelu Torniosta oli ratkennut suomalaisten eduksi. Illalla saksalaisjoukot lähtivät vetäytymään kohti Kemiä ja Rovaniemeä.

The memorial of the Lapland War
EN: Lapland War's battles of Kiviranta – Vojakkala 6. – 8.10.1944 memorial was unveiled on 10.6.1990. It's named to the Finnish and German peace memorial.
After the Continuation War, started the Lapland War on September 1944. That brought the war to the Lapland and so to the Kiviranta village. The residents of the village were forced to evacute to the northern Sweden. In the north of the village were intense fighting between Finnish and German as a part of the Tornio battles. The area of the battlefield destroyed the village almost completely.
On 6 October started the final German effort to drive Finns away from the Tornio and regain the transportation junction located there. They had deployed 6 infantry battalions with armor and artillery support for the operation, however instead of facing what two infantry regiments like they had expected Germans were on 6 October already facing 10 Finnish infantry battalions who had very limited armor and artillery support. Again both sides choose to press on with attacks. Germans chose to attack simultaneously from north and east while Finns dispatched a full regiment to outflank the Germans to the north of Tornio. What resulted was some of the fiercest fighting during the Lapland War. German attack from the north managed to cross the Keropudas river but was stopped and tied down by resolute Finnish defence while attack from east failed to throw Finns from their positions.
Finnish 50th Infantry Regiment (JR 50) flanked the German Machine Gun Ski Brigade Finland which had been tied down in its attack against defending JR 53 and reached the Torne river shore north of the German positions. On 7 October situation had grown bad to worse for the Germans, not only had their attacks been repulsed but attacking units had suffered heavy losses and the only reserve of the 20th Mountain Army, Brigade Finland had been encircled north of Tornio just when Soviet offensive in the Arctic started. However Germans were not the only ones in trouble, the Finnish JR 50 which had been rushed to the battle had left most of its equipment to Röyttä and the supplies had be carried by hand over swamps or marshy terrain. German attempts to relieve the encircled units did not succeed during 7 October. On 8 October Finns started to clean up the encirclement and attacked from all directions against surrounded Germans. Though many Germans were taken as POWs from the encirclement lot of Germans managed however to escape though they had suffered heavy casualties.
