Lorsque depuis l'aval, on observe le village, on s'aperçoit qu'il est installé sur une pente à forte déclivité entre 1230m et 1380m. Les chalets sont groupés et étagés en espaliers horizontaux, ils profitent tous du soleil et d'une belle vue sur la vallée. On compte environ 5 à 6 rangées de maisons. Autrefois, les hameaux du Beaufortain vivaient isolés surtout en hiver. La vie s'organisait alors autour de plusieurs pôles que sont l'abreuvoir, le four à pain, l'école et la chapelle. Errigée en 1630, la chapelle Saint Jacques de Boudin en a sans doute remplacé une plus ancienne en bois. Les habitants ont participé à sa construction et à sa décoration en fournissant argent, matériaux et force de travail. Elle a été restaurée récemment et on peut la visiter. Un incendie a détruit trois magnifiques chalets en décembre 2010. Ils sont reconstruits dans le respect de l'architecture initiale.

The village of Boudin is the highest of the many hamlets of the commune of Beaufort. This village is so remarkable that it is classified as "protected site" by the Fine Arts since 1943 and some of its cottages are listed on the heritage inventory.
The village is set up on a steep slope between 1230m and 1380m. The cottages are grouped and stepped into horizontal wall bars, they all enjoy the sun and a beautiful view of the valley. There are about 5-6 rows of houses. Formerly, Beaufortain lived isolated hamlets especially in winter. Life is then organized around several poles of the trough, the bread oven, the school and the chapel. Built in 1630, the Saint Jacques chapel has probably replaced an older wood-made. The people involved in its construction and decoration by providing money, materials and labor. It was recently restored and can be visited. A fire destroyed three chalets in December 2010. They are rebuilt respecting the original architecture.
