How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Avon Valley Railway was closed to passengers in the sixties, when trains went out of fashion. However, Oldland Common and Bitton stations have been restored and leisurely train rides between the stations are still run today. Further information about the railway and its services are available here.

This cache can only be located using a chirp compatible GPS device. Only certain units are chirp compatible and you may need to upgrade your firmware first. To find more about how this works you may want to look here.

To find the cache co-ordinates, you will need to visit Oldland Common station at the posted co-ordinates and enable the chirp on your GPS device. The chirp will broadcast the co-ordinates and hint for the cache's location. Walk the cycle path between the two bridges until your GPS device picks up the chirp signal. If the chirp battery is running low, it will send out a notification along with the cache co-ordinates. If you receive a message indicating a low battery, please log a maintenance request.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, further information relating to the SideTracked series, including statistics, is available here.
