Geocache Description:

This is a earth cache there is no physical container at gz.
You will notice that there are crystals in this rock.

Granite is a kind of igneous rock, found on Earth but nowhere else in the Solar System. It is formed from hot, molten magma, which cools and turns slowly into stone. Its colour ranges from pink to grey, according to the proportions of its minerals. The magma is forced between other layers of rock by the pressure under the Earth's surface. Granite has many different types of minerals in it. These include quartz, feldspar, hornblende, and sometimes mica. As the magma cools, these minerals form crystals, the slower the magma cools, the larger the crystals. Granite has relatively large crystals indicating that it is formed in slow-cooling magma.  The crystals can be seen easily if the granite is cut and polished. Granite is a common stone on Earth, and makes up a big part of the crust, the Earth’s outer layer. It is usually found in the continental plates of the Earth’s crust. Although it forms under the surface of the Earth, there are many places where it has been forced upwards by tectonic movement. When plates in the Earth’s crust move together, they get bent and pushed upwards. When this happens, granite mountains can be formed.

I beleve this rock I found to be glacial erratic after viewing a few images my self.
I dont know how it became to be in this park.

A glacial erratic is a piece of rock that differs from the size and type of rock native to the area in which it rests. "Erratics" take their name from the Latin word errare, and are carried by glacial ice, often over distances of hundreds of kilometres. Erratics can range in size from pebbles to large boulders such as Big Rock 15,000 tonnes or 17,000 short tons.

In order to log this cache as a find you must answer the following questions and email me the answers.
Any loged find with out a email to me will be deleated.

1 Looking at this specimen which three colours might you expect to find in granite.

2 Describe the physical features of this specimen including observations on the texture, the hardness, the density and the appearance of the crystals.

3 What is the relationship between a feature of the crystals and the rate of cooling of the magma during the formation of granite.

4 What feature of this rock is very important to rock - Climbers.

5 Name 2 things to which this rock is resitant two.

6 (optional) A picture of you with your gps on the rock.
