Hengchun ‘Eternal flames’ (Chinese: 出火) is one of Taiwan’s most bizarre natural phenomenon. Nature eternal flames burns continuously from the vents in the area and become a major tourism attraction in Hengchun. The number of known natural eternal flames in the world have been estimated at only a couple of hundred, of which a number can be found in Taiwan.

The eternal flame at Hengchun has become quite popular in recent years, and now attracts a steady stream of people throughout the day. For the best effect, go after dark, when this place is quite magical. Seeing flames emerging spookily from a patch of crumbly. You will know how it is oddly compelling!
