This track has always been one of our favorites with plenty of wildflowers, particularly during Spring, and glorious sweeping views over Manly, Manly Dam and the Sydney City & Chatswood skylines. The track encircles a large rock outcrop from where, for the price of a short easy scramble, even grander views can be enjoyed.
Dogs: Dogs are allowed if on a leash.
Parking: Closest car parking is at the end of Roosevelt Avenue (25 car spaces) between the Allambie Heights tennis courts and the Scout hall (S33° 46.007 E151° 14.878).
Public Transport: State Transit Bus 142 & E66 (peak hours only) and Forest Coach Bus 280 run along Allambie Road. Alight at Allambie Heights Shops and follow Roosevelt Avenue to the tennis courts, and then the fire trail to WP1.
Nearby Facilities: Allambie Heights Shops are about 200 metres away (S33° 45.977 E151° 15.038) which has numerous food outlets & Cafes, an IGA Supermarket, Newsagent with Post Office, Chemist, Westpac ATM and a BP Service Station.
The Cache: This is a simple Multi-cache designed to take you around the Heath Track, before heading “off track” to reach the final GZ. It consists of three waypoints and a final GZ location. Each of the three waypoints has a small aluminium plate (85mm x 25mm) bearing the coordinates of the next waypoint, with the last waypoint (WP3) bearing the coordinates of final GZ. There are no calculations to be done, simply enter the coordinates as seen on the aluminium plates. The published coordinates will take you to the first waypoint (WP1), the start of The Heath Track. (Handy Tip: If you are having trouble reading the numbers on the plates try getting some charcoal on your finger, from one of the many burnt trees nearby, and rub it across the plate)
You will also see numerous yellow painted metal arrow track markers attached to the sandstone under foot and these are a good indication that you are still “on track”. But beware that most of these arrows will be pointing in the opposite direction to which you will be walking. Follow these (reverse) arrows all the way around until you reach waypoint 3 (WP3). Don't worry too much about the GPSr direction, or distance, indications between WP2 & WP3. Just keep following the (reverse) arrows, as the track will curve around to WP3. An existing "traditional" cache (GCT4XC - Green Hills and Blue Sky) is located very close to where we would have liked to put another waypoint (between WP2 & WP3), so why not visit that cache while you are passing.
Exit the Heath Track at WP3 and follow the faint geopath upward, up over the large flat-topped rock (38m from WP3, 35m from GZ) and then follow the rocky cliff-line, with it's nice views, all the way to final GZ.
The final GZ cache is a camouflaged 2 litre sistema container with plenty of room for swaps & trackables and can be easily accessed with both feet firmly on the ground (and there is no need to utilise any telephone numbers observed at GZ). There may be native marsupials living VERY close to the cache container so please be mindful when retrieving & replacing the container.
