Geocache Description:

The Smell of Lavender

At the Lavender Farm, AKA Whispering Springs Farm, the rugged landscape of central Utah contrasts beautifully with these serene, fragrant lavender fields to create a place of peace and relaxation. Featuring over 1,400 acres of fragrant herbs, a cool reservoir, pristine natural beauty and fresh mountain air, the Mona, UT Lavender Farm is a beautiful destination the whole family can enjoy. Known for being the largest herb farm and distillery in the world, the Lavender Farm is open to visitors year-round.

No matter what time of year you visit, you will get an inside look at some phase of their planting and distilling operations. In the spring you will see the lavender starts being planted and the fields being cultivated. In the summer and fall you will not only view vast organic fields of lavender, peppermint, clary sage, and other herbs, but you will also witness acres and acres of herbs being harvested by cultivation equipment and distilled in specially-designed stainless steel distilling chambers.

In the winter you can watch the starts being planted and tended in the greenhouses. The farm's specially designed and built distillers are the only stainless steel, vertical steam distillers in North America. Their design is based on the ancient tradition of distillation used in Europe, India, Egypt and other areas of the world. During the fall and summer months when distillation is in full production, the exotic herbal aromas that waft from the "cooker" will provide a treat for senses and a thrill for the imagination.

Whenever you decide to visit, check out the following activities, which include:

  • Annual Lavender Day - This yearly event includes a 5K race thru the lavender fields, a pancake breakfast and other fun activities. Usually held at the end of July.
  • Essential oils classes
  • Distillery tours
  • Wagon rides
  • Small animal farm visits
  • Paddleboat cruises, etc.
  • The Lavender Farm is also a popular place for family reunions, company parties, and wedding receptions, etc.
