Šíshaus
Šíshaus, znamená v svojskom miestnom voľnoprepise po nemecky "strelnica". Strelnica ... a to uprostred dediny?! Nuž, v Banskej Hodruši je všetko možné... Tu je vysvetlenie:
Ľudia sa usilovali zastavať každý rovný kúsok zeme v Hodrušskej doline, ale na tejto nečakane veľkej plošine nikdy nestáli budovy okrem jednej jedinej – strelnice. Táto lúčka mala teda dôležitú funkciu, slúžila ako cvičisko haviarskej domobrany a strelnica pre ich pušky a kuše. Preto sa toto miesto ešte aj dnes volá Šíshaus – Strelecký dom. Baníci sa tu povinne učili zaobchádzať so zbraňami, aby boli schopní brániť svoje domovy pred nepriateľmi – Turkami, martalovcami (polovojenskými lúpežníkmi, ktorí sprevádzali Turkov), vojakmi a žoldniermi protihabsburgských povstaní uhorských stavov. Treba povedať, že nie vždy sa im to darilo – napríklad Turci plienili Banskú Hodrušu až štyrikrát.

People here have always tried to build on every plane little piece of earth in the Hodrusa valey. But on this even platorm has never stand any building expect the one - the shooting house. Therefore this little meadow has been very important as he shooting training place for local home guards. Miners were obliged to learn how to deal with shooting weapons to be able to defend their homes and village againts the enemies - Turks, Martals (paramilitary bandits that came with Turks), soldiers and mercenaries of the anti-Habsburg uprising. However, the defenders were not always successful, as Turks have ransacked Banska Hodrusa four times.
