This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: Found out in the open a bit, and gnawed (animals rather than cachers, no doubt) so taken with me and retired. Thanks for all the logs over the years.

Geocache Description:

What's waiting for you in these woods? What does it want?
Will you find it... or will it find you?*

Set for the 2018 Winter Geolympix with permission from the National Trust. If you intend to attempt the Letter/Box Challenge on Mega day you may want to leave this until then.

A Puzzle-type Letterbox/Hybrid cache (please don't remove the ink pad or stamp; they're not swaps) - The cache is NOT at the given co-ords, but it is within a mile of this spot... To work out exactly where, first you have to crack a puzzle or two.

Method 1: Go to N51° 4A.BCD' W000° 3E.FGH' where:

4 x A x B = 256
x x x
C x D x E = 56
x x x
F x G x H = 360
= = =
64 504 160

Or if your device doesn't like tables,
4xAxB=256,
CxDxE=56,
FxGxH=360,
4xCxF=64,
AxDxG=504 and
BxExH=160.

Method 2: Go to N51° 4A.BCD' W000° 3E.FGH' where:

4 + A + B = 20
+ + +
C + D + E = 13
+ + +
F + G + H = 22
= = =
14 24 17

Or if your device doesn't like tables,
4+A+B=20,
C+D+E=13,
F+G+H=22,
4+C+F=14,
A+D+G=24 and
B+E+H=17.

Method 3: Take the first letter AFTER THE X in these words or phrases and convert it in the grid below to learn the co-ords (If there's more than one X, use the first one!):
N51° 4A.BCD' W000° 3E.FGH'

A: Former space competition in which a US$10,000,000 prize for the first non-government organisation to launch a reusable manned spacecraft into space twice within two weeks was offered. It was modeled after early 20th-century aviation prizes, and aimed to spur development of low-cost spaceflight. It was won in 2004 when SpaceShipOne achieved suborbital spaceflight twice within the time limit.

B: A form of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths ranging from 0.01 to 10 nanometers, corresponding to frequencies in the range 30 petahertz to 30 exahertz (3×1016 Hz to 3×1019 Hz) and energies in the range 100 eV to 100 keV. On November 8th 1895, German physics professor Wilhelm Röntgen discovered this form of radiation while experimenting with Lenard tubes and Crookes tubes.

C: Microsoft game console first released in North America, parts of Europe, Australia, and South America in November 2013, and in Japan, China, and other European countries in September 2014.

D: Comic book superhero team introduced in September 1963, initially featuring Angel (Archangel), Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, and Marvel Girl (Jean Grey). Magneto also made his initial appearance in the first issue of the comic.

E: A Chinese politician currently serving as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), President of the People's Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission. Often described as China's 'paramount leader', in 2016 the CPC officially gave him the title of Core Leader. As General Secretary, he holds an ex-officio seat on the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, China's top decision-making body.

F: Known as The Creeping Unknown in the United States, this 1955 British science fiction horror film drama from Hammer Film Productions was based on a 1953 BBC Television serial written by Nigel Kneale. The story begins with three astronauts being launched into space aboard a rocket, but the spacecraft returns to Earth with only one occupant, Victor Carroon (Richard Wordsworth). Something has infected him during the spaceflight, and he begins mutating into an alien organism which, if it spawns, will engulf the Earth and destroy all humans.

G: A markup language that defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The W3C's 1.0 Specification and several other related specifications - all of them free open standards - define the language. Its design goals of emphasize simplicity, generality, and usability across the Internet. It is a textual data format with strong support via Unicode for different human languages. Although the design focuses on documents, the language is widely used for the representation of arbitrary data structures such as those used in web services. (Full name, not the TLA).

H: This company came to prominence in 1959 when it introduced the 914 - the so-called "most successful single product of all time." The 914 was the first plain paper photocopier, developed by Carlson and John H. Dessauer. Its popularity was such that by the end of 1961 the company had almost $60 million in revenue. The product was sold by an innovative ad campaign showing that even monkeys could make copies at the touch of a button. Simplicity would become the foundation of the firm's future products and user interfaces. Revenues jumped to over $500 million by 1965.
