Geocache Description:

A church with a twist. Formerly St Mark's this is now the Greek Orthodox church of The Twelve Apostles . There is parking within the church grounds but please do not attempt this cache after dark or if there is a service on.

I have been unable to find out much about the church of St Mark's but the church website describes how the Greek orthodox church came to occupy the building.

'On the 12th June 1991 fourteen members of the local community met with his Eminence Archbishop Gregorios and took the first steps towards the formation of our church. For the first seven years The Twelve Apostles church shared Saint Andrews Anglican church in Cuffley, Hertfordshire. Whilst we will always be grateful to the congregation of Saint Andrews for their hospitality, the drawbacks of sharing were obvious, and our dream was always to have a church of our own. The arrival of Father Joseph Paliouras as our priest gave an added impetus to our progress.... Those dreams were realised in December 1997 when we were able to purchase our church in Brookmans Park, Hertfordshire. The first service in our new Church was held on the 28th February 1999 and the consecration of The Twelve Apostles Church was held on Sunday 1st October 2000 with the presence of His Eminence Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain Gregorios.

The name St Mark's is retained only in the adjoining churchyard which you will need to visit. This church is dedicated to the Twelve Apostles.
