My second series of caches is a circular walk of approx 4 miles starting off from Smithwood Common where you can also find another two of my caches (see Four Elms and also A Fine Pair #46).
The route is mostly on public footpaths and passes through varied countryside including both woodland and open fields with some stiles to cross. There is a short section along a narrow uphill lane where you should take care especially if you have children or dogs with you. Allow between 2 hours 30 minutes and 3 hours for the circuit depending on your walking speed and quickness in finding caches.
Suggested parking for a couple of cars is at N 51° 09.530 W 000° 29.750 but please park sensibly and respect the privacy of the local residents.
Caches are mostly of the Traditional type with the addition of three simple Multi-caches and one Letterbox. There is no Bonus to collect this time so you could attempt them in any order although if you do not follow the numbers then you might need to backtrack with the Multis. Containers vary in both type and size with a few different outer containers to keep you amused. No special equipment is necessary although you may need tweezers to extract a couple of the log books. Finally don't forget to bring a pen to sign the log books.
Cross the road and take the footpath to the right of the field alongside the tree line. As you reach the brow of the hill and before you turn into the woods turn around and admire the view towards the Hogs Back and Hascombe Hill and see how high you have come already.
