Geocache Description:

Nothing left of this medieval village although it was listed in the Domesday book.

The Newbold Round Is a series of 11 caches around the village of Newbold Verdon

2 great caches by Pat and Peter are now within the circular trail of approximately three and a half miles making it a series of 13.

Church Micro 3374 Newbold Verdon –St. James, GC46HMR

Church Micro 3377Newbold Methodist, GC46J2W P> Walking is fairly easy along public footpaths ,tracks and a short section of road,, flat but with a few boggy areas in places. There are a few areas where dogs need to be kept on leads [sheep/cattle]

This is my first series of caches; most of my previous caches have been of an ‘extreme’ nature but having had a knee replacement late February 2015 I set this up as part of my convalescence. All were placed whilst still on elbow crutches!

There is no evidence to suggest when the windmill was originally built. There is no mention of a windmill in the entry for Brascote in the Domesday survey. The earliest mention that can be found is in the trade directory for 1846. It was still in working order when it was demolished in 1912 but it had ceased working sometime between 1908 and 1912 when it was pulled down.

It was demolished by a Mr. Scott of Market Bosworth who recycled the timbers. There is nothing left today of the windmill on the site. However, for many years the millers were also beer sellers and the beer house is now a public house, taking its name from the windmill

Mentioned in the Domesday book but probably abandoned during the middle ages. No one seems sure why but the plague could well have been a reason.
