Le 21 mars 1780, Gilbert Motier, marquis de La Fayette, gentilhomme français âgé de 21 ans, embarque à bord de la fréguate l'Hermione pour combattre aux côtés des insurgés américains qui luttent contre les Anglais, pour obtenir leur indépendance. Il débarque à Boston après 38 jours de traversée et rejoint le général Washington pour lui annoncer l'arrivée imminente des renforts français qui seront conduits par Rochambeau (terre) et de Grasse (mer).
235 ans plus tard, une réplique à l'identique de l'Hermione a été réalisée à Rochefort, et vient de prendre la mer le 8 avril 2015, afin de re-éditer cette traversée historique, et longer la cote est des Etats-Unis, sur les traces de Lafayette. Le retour de l'Hermione à Rochefort est prévu pour le 29 aout 2015.

Lors de son premier voyage, l'Hermione passe au droit de Fort-Lupin, à l'embouchure de la Charente.
Les mâts rétractables sont en position basse, afin de passer l'obstacle des ponts
On voit nettement le nuage de fumée du coup de canon qui vient d'être tiré par le sabord arrière babord.
Cette cache necessite une coopération entre un géocacheur de France et un géocacheur résidant sur la côte nord-est des Etats Unis d'Amérique (Région Providence, Newport, Rhode Island).
La principale difficulté de cette cache sera donc pour vous d'entrer en contact avec un géocacheur américain volontaire pour réaliser cette cache en binôme avec vous.
Il s'agit en fait de deux caches "Unknown" liées : "L'Hermione" (GC5T2RC) à Paris, et "Vive la France" (GC5T5NQ) à Rhode Island (USA). Un géocacheur en France recherche les indices parisiens, tandis qu'un géocacheur aux Etats-Unis recherche les indices situés dans la région de Rhode Island.
L'ensemble des indices est nécessaire pour déterminer les coordonnées des deux caches finales. Quand ces coordonnées sont découvertes, chaque géocacheur va chercher la cache dans le pays où il se trouve, et signe le log-book avec son propre pseudo, mais aussi avec le pseudo de son binôme, situé outre-atlantique.

A Paris, cette cache vous permettra de faire une agréable promenade dans un des plus beaux quartiers de la capitale, à la recherche des indices.
Tout d'abord, un petit quiz :

- Avant sa traversée de 1780 sur l'Hermione, La Fayette avait effectué un premier voyage en Amérique en 1777 à bord d'un navire de commerce français qui coula au large de Charleston : Quel est le nom de ce navire (10 lettres)?
Valorisez les lettres de ce nom (a = 1, b = 2...) et calculez Q = lettre 1 + lettre 4 + lettre 10

Rendez vous ensuite à WP1, situé près du n° 101 rue de Rivoli à Paris (Métro Palais-Royal), et localisez la statue de Lafayette. Juste au dessus, vous verrez une seconde statue : Quel est le nom du personnage?

Rendez-vous ensuite à WP2 en effectuant une projection de 308° / 1271 mètres. Au n°8 de la rue, localisez une plaque de pierre gravée située à environ 4 mètres de hauteur. A la 3e ligne, quel est le 4e mot gravé sur cette plaque?
C = Valeur de la 3e lettre de ce mot

Direction WP3 en effectuant une projection de 228° / 891 mètres. Vous trouverez là un énorme bloc portant une sculpture. Quel est le nom du sculpteur (8 lettres)?
J = Valeur de la 1e lettre de ce mot

Vous arriverez à WP4 par une 3e projection de 311° / 1606 mètres qui vous ménera à un monument très connu. A l'extèrieur de ce monument, sur son coté nord, recherchez le nom de Lafayette. Quel est le nom gravé juste au dessous (9 lettres)?

On March 21, 1780, Gilbert Motier, marquis of La Fayette, French gentleman, 21 years old, embarked on board of the frigate "L'Hermione" to help the American insurgents that were fighting against the English, to get their independence. He disembarked at Boston after 38 days of crossing to inform General Washington of the imminent French reinforcement arrival that will be commanded by Rochambeau (field army) and de Grasse (navy).
235 years later, an exact replica of the l'Hermione has been constructed in Rochefort (France), and has just set sail on April 8, 2015, in order to reproduce this historic crossing, and navigate along the East coast of the United States, on the trail of Lafayette. The return of l'Hermione in Rochefort is planned for August 29, 2015.
This cache requires a cooperation between a geocacher in France and a geocacher living near the northeastern coast of the USA (region of Providence, Newport, Rhode Island).
The main difficulty of this cache will therefore be for you to contact an American geocacher and work together. Working together you will be able log a find here and in America.
It is in fact two Unknown caches bound together : "L'Hermione" (GC5T2RC) in Paris (France), and "Vive la France" (GC5T5NQ) in Rhode Island (USA). A geocacher in France searches for the Parisian clues, while a geocacher in the USA discovers the clues situated in the Rhode Island area.
All the clues in France and America must be discovered to determine the coordinates of the two final caches. When these coordinates are discovered, each geocacher has to look for the container in the country where they are, and sign the log-book with both your caching name as well as your international partner’s caching name.

In Paris, this cache will take you for a pleasant walk in one of the most beautiful districts of the capital, in search of the clues.
