Follow the road from Fionnphort towards Knockvologan. Near the end of the road, there is a small parking area by the fence, with a house and barns visible up ahead. Look for the nature reserve interpretation board next to one of the barns and take the stony track leading across moorland. Go through a gate and continue towards a hill surrounded by woodland. On reaching another gate (which may look locked but you can unhook the chain) you are entering the nature reserve. Take great care on the paths and bridges, the ground underfoot is likely to be quite wet. Further information on the nature reserve can be found here:

Turn right at each path junction until you are walking through native Atlantic oak and hazel woodland covered in ferns, mosses and lichens. The path can be rough and indistinct at times but a lovely route provided you are well prepared with map and boots! Look out for nibbled hazelnuts stashed by mice in little piles under rocks. Just downhill from the cache is an ancient oak tree which fills a sheltered spot with its huge branches, some of them growing downwards out of the wind!
