Tautas teika

The legend

[EN]  In Edole Castle Park there is an oak at the edge of the lake that is called an dwarfs' oak. It is very old and fixed with several wooden planks. It has got its name because of dwarfs that had lived there. Once the king had seen the dwarfs jumping over the oak while he was passing by in his carriage. It has been told that if the oak fell down the castle would sink in the lake.

During the nineties the broken oak trunk was embedded with bollard but stump was strengthened with stone masonry. Unfortunately, the dwarfs' oak broke down in the summer of 2007. Unofficial information is that the great tree was older than the historical architectural monument – castle. It could have been around 800 years old. This possibility is also called from the biological point of view. From stories, memories and history of Edole, there is a reason to believe that the oak has been the sacred site.
