Vesturkirkjan and Sigmundur Traditional Geocache

This cache is located just a short walk from the city centre. 

The church Vesturkirkjan was built in 1975 and has become one of Tórshavns landmarks. The 42 meter high tower is shaped like a vertical half pyramid and its shape resembles a ship with sails. 

On June 5, 2006, a monument of Sigmundur Brestisson made by the sculptor Hans Pauli Olsen was inaugurated. Sigmundur Brestisson is the main character in many Faroese sagas and tales. In year 999 Sigmundur Brestisson (961 – 1005) introduced Christianity to the Faroe Islands. He was not gentle - he went with armed men and offered the choice between accepting Christianity or face beheading. Sigmundur was born in Skúvoy and that is where his gravestone is located. Also worth a visit :-) 

The cache you are looking for is magnetic and only contains a logbook. Beware of mugglers as this is one of the busiest places in the city.
