Geocache Description:

Enjoy a brilliant view over Mingary Burn and out toward the Isle of Rum and Muck with glorious blue ocean inbetween.

Parking is available at the entrance to the Forestry Commission Scotland site, Loch Tor which is signposted on the Tobermory-Dervaig road. All of the walk is on good forest tracks with a variety of landscapes to enjoy, including Loch Tor itself, look out for divers and ducks here, plus look over to the rough ground beyond for the chance to see a hen harrier, one the UK's rarest birds of prey. Much of the forest is confier plantation, with sitka spruce and larch, but the woodland edges alongside the tracks are great ground for rarer butterflies, including the dark-green fritiliary and scotch argus, watch out for adders too!

The view will soon open out to look over Mingary Burn, a very important site for some protected species, so protected I won't tell you what they are! Look out for others including red deer and buzzard. On a clear day you'll also have a great view out to the North West where you can see the peaks of the Isle of Rum, with low lying Muck next door. Keep your eyes out for local white-tailed eagles and look North toward the ridgeline near Glengorm for golden eagles.

The track continues right through the forest to the village Dervaig, or you turn back the same way to the parking area.
