St James The Great is the catholic church for the Petts Wood area.
Petts Wood itself was developed during the 1930's and catholic church worship has taken place here since 1937. The church served the parish well for 27 years, but as the years passed the original building proved too small and the current, larger church was opened in 1964. Those with long memories recall the Bishop of Southwark opening the church in March that year with flaming torches and a fanfare of trumpets.
The original church became the church hall and later was enlarged and modernised in 1980 to form a Social Centre.
In its Silver Jubilee Year, the church was consecrated and dedicated by the Archbishop of Southwark.
You are looking for a bison tube. After signing the log please replace exactly as you find it keeping it hidden from view so far as is possible. It is suitable for a cache & dash. Bring your own pen, tweezers might help too.
There is street parking available by the church, but it is often taken by commuters. Also, there are few single yellow lines nearby that only prevent parking Mon-Fri 8-10 am. Avoiding times of church services is sensible as the church is extremely popular.
