Geocache Description:

This cache is one of a series of 26, the Surrey A-Z, placed across the county by a team of 'Surrey Cachers'. The caches vary in type, size and difficulty, and each location has a different initial letter...

Surrey A-Z

'V' is for Valley End.

The earliest references to Valley End go back to the reign of Henry III, in the 13th century, when the hamlet was referred to as Falelye or Falilegh. In the years since, its name has been recorded variously as Faledle, Falleywod, Fallwood and Fellow End. Cartographers seem to have settled on the name Valley End by the mid-19th century.

The parish sits between Chobham and Windlesham in the Surrey Heath district of the county. Most of its land lies to the north of the M3 motorway, though the main cluster of buildings are to the south. These include the school, founded in 1859, and St Saviour's church, built in 1867 by the leading ecclesiastical architect, George Frederick Bodley. Even the village cricket club has a long heritage, with the first ball bowled here back in 1895.

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates - these are for a suitable place to park your car. It's best to avoid this area at the start and end of the school day. And please be careful when walking along the road.

The cache is a short distance away but you'll need to find  A  B  C  D  before you can sign the log:

  • A is the last digit of the year in the inscription in the gable of the school building.
  • B is the number of letters in Roy's surname on the war memorial.
  • C is the last digit of Gwen's year of birth on the church gate.
  • D is the number of letters in Jim's surname on the bench behind the church.

The cache is hidden at: N 51° 21.AB0 W 000° 37.CD0

Certificates for the first three finders. Remember, this is a 'Letterbox Hybrid', so please don't remove the ink stamp from the cache.
