South of Akureyri lies Iceland's most visited forest Kjarnaskógur. More than 1 million trees of all kind have been planted during the last 50 years. The area is about 600 ha in size.
The cache leads you to the entry of the forest and the stash was selected in order not to disturb the forest in anyway. Nevertheless, it is highly recommended to visit the area since you will find 7 km lighted trail in plus a vast network of backcountry trails. You will also find a 10km long designated mountain bike trail. There are two playgrounds, picnic areas, barbequ facilities, restrooms and a volley ball course as well. For bird lovers, the area has a very varied bird life, and even a bird watching shelter by the marsh Hundatjörn in Naustaborgir. At Hamrar nearby you will find a camping ground with easy access to the forest.
