Geocache Description:

Seán Russell took part in the Easter Rising 1916 and the War of Independence but he was a controversial figure in life, and in death too. He was born in the Fairview area of Dublin and it is in Fairview Park that his commemorative statue now stands.

Seán Russell was controversial, of that there is no doubt. Not only his life, but he died on a German U-Boat off the Galway coastline in 1940. His afterlife was even more controversial with his commemorative statue itself been attacked by Right and Left supporters. He even lost his stony head on one occasion during an attack. The statue was replaced by a bronze version. The four provinces are written on the four sides of the plinth and the respective counties of Ireland are written in Irish (as Gaeilge) on each side.

NOTE: The cache is a small 2" tube style container covered in tape. Please secure the lid properly to prevent water penetration.

NOTE: The park can be a dangerous place at night so I do not advise a night run to the site.

*Congratulations to silver soldier for being the (triple) FTF*
