SideTracked started at Evesham station on August 10th 2007, placed by schnarff & bikermel76. It took a while to get started, but is now spreading across the country!
It is hoped this idea will spread across the country in the same way as the MMs….but if hiding one PLEASE BE SENSIBLE and remember that in this day and age, public transport is under greater scrutiny than ever before, so, although these caches should be quick and easy grabs, PLEASE don’t place a Cache where it could cause alarm!!! (Particularly, please ensure that you aware of the new rules of 04/09/08 before hiding your Cache!)
The railway first came to Swindon in 1841, and initially whislt there was a halt there wasn't much in thw way of facilities. Back then if you wanted a ticket, you had to pop into the Goddard Arms on the high Street, which was the booking office.
However this rather strange state of affairs didn't last long, for in 1842 a dedicated three storey station was opened. The ground floor having booking offices and a cafe, and the upper floors being given over to a hotel.
This station hung around until 1972, when it was demolished to make way for the raher unsightly confection of station and office block that is there now.
These days, Swindon station is one of the busiest in the region, handling upwards of 3 million passengers a year.
The cache is small and magnetic.
Congratulations to both Slogger007 and Smenus on being the first to find this cache.
