O Dia do Pi é comemorado anualmente no dia 14 de março. A escolha da data 3 de março para o Dia do Pi prende-se com o facto da notação americana das datas ser MM/DD e não DD/MM. Esta efeméride (a partir da data, escrita de forma “oficial”, conseguir escrever este famoso número irracional com dez dígitos), só acontece uma vez em cada 100 anos.

Se queres conhecer um pouco mais sobre este “irracional”, bem como a sua “ligação” ao Geocaching, comparece pelas 20H30 do sábado, 14 de março, no GZ deste invento. Término do evento previsto para as 22H00.

Origem do Dia do Pi
A primeira comemoração do Dia do Pi aconteceu em 1988, em São Francisco, no Museu Exploratorium. Larry Shaw, considerado por muitos o "Príncipe do Pi", foi o fundador desta data comemorativa. Desde então a comemoração tornou-se internacional.
O que é o Pi?
O Pi é o número mais famoso da história. Representado pela letra grega p, tem origem na relação entre o perímetro de uma circunferência e seu diâmetro. Curiosamente embora seja um número, não pode ser escrito com um número finito de algarismos.
No dia 14 de março é também celebrado o aniversário de nascimento de Albert Einstein (nascido a 14 de março de 1879).

Pi Day Source
The first celebration of Pi Day was held in 1988 in San Francisco, the Museum Exploratorium. Larry Shaw, considered by many the "Pi-Blood Prince", was the founder of this commemorative day. Since then, the celebration has become international.
What is Pi?
Pi is the most famous number in history. Represented by the Greek letter p, comes from the relationship between the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Interestingly though a number, can not be written with a finite number of digits.
