Welcome to a GeoXantike - Star event. A great weekend in Xanten is coming to an end ... But Wait! That cannot have been everything. No, you now have the opportunity to visit a star event! This event gives you the opportunity to visit another event on your way home in the vicinity and at the same time a particular point on the Lower Rhine.
It goes without saying that this event is also open to cachers who didn’t attend GeoXantike.
The Graefenthal Monastery (now called Gut Graefenthal) was founded as a Cistercian monastery in 1248, and its remains can be found between Kessel and Asperden near the River Niers in what is known today as the borough of Kleve. The former monastic church and its grounds served as a graveyard for counts, noblemen and women, and nuns. By 1376 ten counts, countesses and dukes of Geldern had been laid to rest there.
These days, the area and buildings are occasionally open to the public; there are catering facilities and the monastery is used as an educational and cultural venue. (Source: Wikipedia)
For those returning home the day after the Project GeoXantike, we’d like to introduce you to a lovely spot on the Lower Rhine. You’re invited to a geocaching event at Graefenthal Monastery, where you’ll be able to get a closer look at this beautiful location. We plan to meet in the monastery café where we’ll all be able to chat in stunning surroundings. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to reminisce and share our impressions of the past days in these authentic and historic grounds.
When and what time?
The star event will take place on:
7 June, 2015
Between 10:30 and 12:30hrs
Ample parking is available at the park coordinates.
The whole area of the monastery will be accessible during the event.
The monastery café will open from 10.30am serving coffee and cakes at local prices. Toilet facilities are also available here.
Unfortunately, entry to the monastery itself is not included in the event. Should you wish to find out more about the buildings etc. there are highly recommended guided tours at 11am in German or at 11:30am in Dutch.
Tour bookings can be via the
GeoXantike Project Shop.
Don’t forget to bring the booking confirmation along with you!
More information about Kloster Graefenthal can be found on their website.
For the container hunters among you various caches can be found in the direct vicinity outside of the monastery complex.
