(fr) L’étang de Beaurepaire possède un intérêt biologique exceptionnel et apparaît comme l’un des étangs majeurs de la région Poitou-Charentes et du département du Maine et Loire.
Créé au XIVe siècle, la source semble provenir du ruisseau Saint-Nicolas, en amont de l’étang Beaurepaire. Il est le plus grand étang du département des Deux-Sèvres avec une superficie d’une soixantaine hectares.
Il présente un patrimoine historique lié au Château de Beaurepaire et aux différents usages (meunerie, gestion piscicole extensive…) qui ont conditionné son intérêt écologique et paysager actuel.
En raison de sa faible profondeur et de ses rives très planes, il offre une flore remarquable adaptée à l’inondation et l’exondation des rives dictées par les fluctuations saisonnières du niveau de l’eau.
Il est reconnu comme site d’importance majeur pour l’avifaune. De nombreuses espèces d’oiseaux d’eau rares ou menacées y nichent régulièrement tels que le Grèbe huppé ou le Fuligule milouin.

The Beaurepaire lake has an exceptional biological interest and appears as one of the major lakes in the Poitou-Charentes region of Maine et Loire.
Created in the fourteenth century, the source appears to come from the Saint Nicolas brook, upstream of the Beaurepaire lake. It is the largest lake of Deux-Sèvres department with an area of sixty hectares.
It presents historical heritage linked to the Castle of Beaurepaire and different uses (milling and extensive fish management ...) that have created its current ecological and landscape interest.
Because of its shallow depth and its very flat shores, it offers a remarkable flora adapted to flooding and bank exposure dictated by seasonal fluctuations in water level.
It is recognized as a major significant site for birds. Many species of rare or endangered waterbirds nest here regularly such as Crested Grebe or Common Pochard.
