Hawkhurst falls within the Canterbury diocese.
All Saints Church was built in 1861 by the first Vicar, The Rev. Henry Anthony Jeffreys and his Sister, Charlotte. Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, it was constructed of sandstone as a "chapel-of-ease" to the original Hawkhurst Parish Church of St. Laurence for the convenience of the local residents in Highgate.
All Saints has had a relatively short life as a church and is now redundant and an alternative use is being sought. The congregation now hold services in All Saints Lodge, a church centre at Highgate bought by St Laurence Church out of the proceeds from sale of this building. St Laurence’s, on The Moor remains the Parish Church for Hawkhurst.
The abandoned building is now boarded up and disused following it's sale. It's future use is now dependant on pending planning permission. There are mixed feelings about the conversion of All Saints Church but there is general agreement that on the many lovely footpath walks in the area the church spire guides one home. The spire stands 115 feet tall and can be seen from the surrounding countryside. The bent weather vane that sits on top almost symbolises the sad state of this once grand place of worship.
