There are literally thousands of War memorials around the country. WW1 Memorials were usually raised through public subscription to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. This year 2014 is also the centenary of the start of the First World War it's about time there was a series dedicated to War Memorials. There is an un-numbered series in Scotland called Lest we forget. The name of this series We Shall remember them, was chosen from the very moving poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon. It is well worth searching out and reading.
Felton’s war memorial honours the fallen from Felton as well as nearby Acton, Eshott, Swarland and Thirston. It is designed as a simple Celtic cross made from Aberdeen granite with the names of those lost in the First World War towards the base of the main column, and the fallen from World War Two on a tablet at the base. The cost of adding the tablet, £55, was raised by public donation. The co-ordinates take you to the memorial. This is a multi-cache, so you will need to use the information on the memorial to work out the final location, which is a shortish walk away, or a short drive. You are looking for a tube in a camo bag. BYOP.
