Geocache Description:

PLEASE NOTE: THE CACHE LOCATION CHANGED ON 15.03.23

The challenge is to find 14 Church Micro caches with at least 7 different names of the disciples of Jesus as recorded in Luke’s Gospel (see below for the names needed).

Although there were traditionally 12 disciples, one (Judas Iscariot) betrayed Jesus and so there will never be a Christian church named after him.

It is not a requirement to find the 11 remaining disciples’ names. At the publication date of this challenge, there were less than 4 with the names Jude, Philip, Simon or Thomas. As there were 2 disciples named James, that name may be used twice. There must however be a minimum of 7 different disciples names.

The 11 names are:

Andrew

Bartholomew

James

James

John

Jude (also known as Judas Thaddaeus)

Matthew

Peter

Philip

Simon

Thomas

Churches with names such as John the Baptist, St. Thomas of Canterbury, St Thomas Becket, St Thomas More, or St. Simon Stock cannot be used as they were not part of the 12 disciples. It may be worth your while to check the Geocache Description to be sure the Church Micro is definitely named after a disciple of Jesus. St John The Evangelist is acceptable as John, the disciple later became an evangelist. Please don’t include St John’s Wood as this is an area of London!

Some churches have the names of 2 saints i.e. St Peter & St John. Only the first name stated may be used.

Here’s my finds:

GC31W8C   CM #2035 – St Andrew’s, Oving – St Andrew

Many of the churches in the Church Micro series that I have found are St Mary’s. Someone has wondered if this challenge could be achieved with only the Church Micros that I own. The answers is definitely not. Only 4 different disciples names are in my 82! When the challenge was set, it was time-consuming for me to look through all the Church Micros to find out the names of the churches, and probably will be for others. It is usually only Church of England (Anglican) churches that have the names required. The difficulty rating of 4 is mainly for the effort needed to research these!

Previous caches qualify, as do disabled or archived ones, but do not include those you own yourself, unless you adopted them after your finds. Only those in the Church Micro series can be included. Logs which do not meet the qualifying criteria will be queried and may be deleted.

To summarise, 14 Church Micros with at least 7 different names are needed. Please state the GC number, cache name and the particular disciple for each cache listed. Demonstration of your achievement can either be in your log, as a bookmark, uploaded image or a link. If you are uncertain about whether you have met the criteria, the CO recommends messaging him.

The cache itself, which is no more than a D1.5, is located on the edge of the Chiltern Hills on the Oxfordshire / Buckinghamshire border. You are looking for a small screw-top pot. Short term parking is possible, but don't park across the gate.

CONGRATULATIONS to Woking Wonders in being the FTF!
